RNase H1
RNase H1
An enzyme that recognizes RNA–DNA hybrids and can cleave the RNA strand, a mechanism used by some antisense drugs.
Overview
EXPLORE BY LEVELWhen some antisense drugs pair with an RNA message, RNase H1 can recognize the hybrid and cut the RNA strand.

Research Claims
RNase H1 activity depends on hybrid structure, gap length and chemistry, intracellular localization, and enzyme availability. Steric-blocking ASOs use a different mechanism and do not require RNA cleavage.
